We’re trying to squeeze in another outdoor book club while the weather is still nice! Join us for a discussion of The Premonition: A Pandemic Story, by Michael Lewis. The author of The Big Short and Moneyball brings us a fascinating account of the US government’s response to the outbreak of COVID-19, as told through the compelling true stories of a biochemist, a public health worker, and a White House employee who put their careers on the line to try to save lives.

Fivesparks, in partnership with Carlson Orchards, is happy to present Pumpkin Palooza! This event (held on a school early release day) is geared toward families and is an opportunity to enjoy pumpkin-carving fun at Carlson Orchards! Pre-registration (below) is required.
https://www.fivesparks.org/event/pumpkin-palooza-with-carlson-orchards-2/

Each ticket to this event provides your own pumpkin-carving table, a pumpkin, a pumpkin-carving tool kit, and a kid’s meal including: hot dog, chips, Carlson’s apple cider and applesauce, and an ice cream from the Reasons to be Cheerful Chill Wagon.

The Cider Barn will be open for business, so attendees can enjoy the delicious food and beverage offerings Carlson has on offer. If your family would also like to carve large pumpkins, they are available in the orchard store. Items from Carlson’s food menu can be pre-ordered to save time (and receive priority timing), using the registration form (payment handled at the event).

Pumpkin carving is from 2:30-5:30pm, pre-registration is required and space is limited. https://www.fivesparks.org/event/pumpkin-palooza-with-carlson-orchards-2/

We are rounding out our fall outdoor book club series with a gripping work of fiction: The Last Thing He Told Me, by Laura Dave.

"The day the feds raid his high-tech firm, Owen disappears and leaves behind his new wife, Hannah, with $600,000 in cash, his sullen teenager Bailey, and a hand-scrawled note: “Protect her.” The rapid-fire pacing never lets up as Hannah delves into Owen’s past and excavates layer after layer of lies, discovering truths even Bailey never knew—as well as a lethal enemy. Interweaving the complex family relationships of Little Fires Everywhere with the suspenseful twists of Big Little Lies, The Last Thing He Told Me will trigger goosebumps and tears as you flip pages like mad to see how Hannah will handle the bombshells lurking in Bailey’s past." —Adrian Liang

We will meet at Stephanie‘s house either by the firepit on the terrace or in the screened porch (with space heaters), so bring some cozy clothes and a blanket! :)
